Hello!

I’m Mieke and I love art and the environment!

Whether you like to hike through forests, ski down mountains, or watch birds from your kitchen window, most, if not all, of us have a connection to nature. I really enjoy coming up with illustrations that capture specific moments or emotions when people are really connected to the natural environment around them. On top of that, some of my illustrations are centered around raising awareness about climate change and environmental degradation. (Plus a bunch of other random illustrations!)

I think that storytelling is a really effective way to communicate information and I’m hoping to tell stories about the importance of taking care of the environment through my illustrations.

There is a personal project that I’m particularly proud of and it is an illustrated children’s book which introduces the concept of a pollinator garden to elementary school students. It was actually assigned as a culminating project for an Environmental Science Communication course I took during my undergrad in 2021. You can find it here under Pollinator Book, on Pollination Guelph’s Resources for Teachers page, or on BeeCity Canada’s Kids Corner!

On this wee website you will also be able to check out my most recent work (what I post on instagram), a very idle blog, and my contact information should you want to reach out.

And that’s all for now!
